Mercado del Pueblo

The Mercado del Pueblo is Sayulita's weekly farmers market, running every Friday from 10am to 2pm on Avenida Revolución, just north of the main bridge. The market operates from November through April, with occasional additional dates in May. It's the most useful single stop in town for anyone renting a kitchen, and interesting even for those who aren't.

Roughly eighty vendors attend, selling organically grown vegetables and fruit, fresh bread, homemade hot sauces, local honey, prepared foods, and artisan crafts. There's a consistent quality to the produce — much of it comes from the Nayarit interior — and the prepared food section makes for a very good late breakfast.

The market draws a mix of long-stay expats, local residents, and curious visitors, giving it the atmosphere of a neighborhood institution rather than a tourist attraction. Come early for the best selection; by noon the most popular vendors are often selling out.

A story
The Mercado del Pueblo was founded in 2009 as a platform for local farmers and producers who couldn't access mainstream distribution channels. It started with a handful of vendors and now hosts close to eighty. The organic ethos has remained central — no large commercial producers, no packaged imports.
