Museo Arqueológico del Soconusco

Compact archaeology museum with pieces from Izapa and the Pacific Chiapas coast.

This small INAH museum sits in the old municipal palace by the central plaza. Its collection covers the Soconusco coast and nearby archaeological sites, especially Izapa, with sculpture, ceramics, and carved pieces that make the ruined site easier to understand.

It is a good first stop if you have just arrived in Tapachula and need to get your bearings. The museum is modest, but the subject is not: this region was one of Mesoamerica's early cultural crossroads.
