Pomona Archaeological Zone

Forested Maya site west of Tenosique with restored pyramids and a small site museum.

Pomona is a compact Maya site about 45 km west of Tenosique, set in green lowland forest near the Usumacinta River. Several pyramids and platforms have been restored, and the small museum displays carved panels and other finds from the site.

The setting is part of the appeal. Monkeys live in the surrounding trees, crowds are rare, and the pyramids can still be climbed. Bring water, snacks, a hat, and mosquito repellent, as there is little around the entrance.
