Museo Agustín Lara is a modest but worthwhile stop if you want Tlacotalpan to feel less like a set of pretty facades. Lara was one of Mexico's great popular songwriters, with work later performed by major singers across Latin America and Spain.
The museum is small, so do not expect a grand institution. Its value is in connecting the town's musical setting with a figure whose songs became part of the wider Spanish-speaking world.
