Mina Dos Estrellas

Former gold mine turned museum, central to Tlalpujahua's boom and disaster.

Mina Dos Estrellas is the place that explains Tlalpujahua. The mine made the town wealthy in the early 20th century, using modern industrial methods for gold and silver extraction, and later became tied to the 1937 landslide of mud and mining waste that buried part of town.

The museum preserves tunnels, machinery, photographs, and art in a site that feels more substantial than a small-town display. It is the first stop to make if you want Tlalpujahua to be more than a pretty Pueblo Mágico.
