The Basilica of Our Lady of Ocotlán is Tlaxcala's showier church, east of the historic centre. Its Baroque facade and richly worked interior make a strong contrast with the older Franciscan cathedral.
The basilica is tied to a local Marian apparition tradition and remains an active pilgrimage site. Even if you are not following the devotional story, the decoration is worth the walk or short taxi ride.
