The claim is almost certainly false — the band always disputed any connection to the town — but the hotel has embraced the mythology with good humour, and the bar and restaurant are worth a visit regardless of the song.
The building itself is attractive, with tile floors, painted walls, and a shaded courtyard. The bar is a reliable option for a cold beer after a day at the beach, and the restaurant serves decent Mexican food. The souvenir shop sells Hotel California merchandise by the truckload. Whatever its musical credentials, it has become an institution in its own right.
