Presa Taxhimay

Reservoir where a drowned village's church tower still breaks the waterline.

Presa Taxhimay is the most memorable outing from Villa del Carbon. The reservoir was created in the 1930s over the old village of San Luis de las Peras, and the church tower still stands above the water as a blunt reminder of what was flooded. Boat trips are the usual way to see it up close, especially on weekends.
