The Republic Bar is one of the most popular gathering places on the waterfront, a rooftop terrace bar with views over the bay and a sound system that keeps going well into the night. It draws a young international crowd of surfers and backpackers and functions as the social centre of the town's traveller scene. Happy hour runs from late afternoon and the rum cocktails are cheap.
The bar hosts occasional events — live music, themed nights, Sunday sessions. It can get loud and crowded at weekends. The terrace is the best part: a good perch for watching the bay change colour at sunset. Food is available but secondary to the drinking.
