Playa Remanso

Playa Remanso lies about 8 km south of San Juan del Sur and offers a quieter, less organised alternative to Maderas for both swimming and surfing. The beach is a wide sweep of dark sand backed by low vegetation, and the surf here tends to be a bit more powerful and less beginner-friendly than Maderas — intermediate surfers often prefer it. There is a small cluster of food stands at the access point.

Taxis from San Juan del Sur can drop you here, and the road, though unpaved, is passable in a regular vehicle in the dry season. The beach is rarely crowded even in high season. Sunsets here are particularly good because the beach faces almost directly west, and there are no structures to block the view of the horizon.
