Playa Hermosa is one of the least-visited beaches in the San Juan del Sur area and one of the best for a peaceful afternoon. It sits about 13 km south of town, beyond Playa Remanso, and the journey requires either a hired 4x4 taxi or a motorbike — there is no public transport. The relative inaccessibility keeps the numbers down.
The beach itself is wide and calm, with none of the infrastructure of the more popular breaks. Leatherback sea turtles occasionally nest here at night during the season, as this stretch of coast is part of the broader habitat that extends down to La Flor. There are no facilities — bring food, water, and sunscreen. The reward is a long empty beach and the kind of quiet that is increasingly rare on Nicaragua's Pacific coast.
