The white-walled San Miguel Arcángel Church dominates the main plaza of Cabo Rojo town, a solid 18th-century structure completed in 1783. It is one of the older surviving colonial churches in Puerto Rico and worth a look if you are passing through town.
The plaza around it is pleasant — benches under trees, local families in the evenings. Cabo Rojo town is also the birthplace of Ramón Emeterio Betances, the 19th-century physician and independence advocate known as the "father of Puerto Rican independence," and a statue commemorates him nearby.
