Cayo Caracoles — "Snail Cay" — is the second of the two main public cays off La Parguera, slightly larger than Mata la Gata and less of a scene. The water around it is shallow, calm and beautifully clear; the snorkelling along the seagrass flats and small patch reefs is the best of the easily reached cays.
A wooden boardwalk runs out into the mangroves and lets you wander past pelicans and herons without getting your feet wet. As with Mata la Gata, water taxis from the village will drop you and collect you later. Pack water, snacks and shade.
