Five Points South

Five Points South is the most walkable neighborhood in Birmingham — a circular intersection a few miles south of downtown where five streets converge, creating a hub of restaurants, bars, independent shops, and occasional live music. The fountain at the center, featuring a ram and whimsical figures, is a local landmark. The neighborhood was Birmingham's early streetcar suburb and has a settled, slightly bohemian character.

The best strategy is simply to walk the streets around the circle and see what pulls you in. The neighborhood has good Thai, Indian, and American dining options within a few blocks. On weekends it gets lively by late evening. It is also the logical base for anyone who wants to walk to the Birmingham Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
