Lake Guntersville, formed by a Tennessee Valley Authority dam on the Tennessee River, lies about 15 miles north of Boaz and is one of the largest lakes in Alabama. The lake and surrounding Guntersville State Park offer fishing, boating, hiking, camping, and a swimming beach set in the scenic hill country of northeastern Alabama.
The lake is particularly well regarded for bass fishing and draws competitive fishing tournaments throughout the year. The state park has a lodge and cabins in addition to camping. Eagles nest at the lake and are frequently visible in winter, making it one of the better eagle-watching spots in the region.
