Tuscumbia's Moon Tree is a small but wonderfully odd space-age landmark: a sycamore grown from one of the tree seeds carried around the Moon during Apollo 14. The idea sounds like folklore, but it belongs to a real NASA and Forest Service project that planted moon-flown seeds around the United States after the mission.
The tree is best seen as a quick stop while visiting Ivy Green or exploring the music and history sights of the Shoals area. It will not fill an afternoon, but it adds a surprising national story to an otherwise local landscape, which is exactly the kind of detour World66 likes.
