Petersburg is on Mitkof Island in Southeast Alaska. There are no roads from the mainland — the longest paved road on the island is 18 miles. Most visitors arrive via the Alaska State Ferry System or Alaska Airlines, which operates twice-daily jet service. Small aircraft from neighbouring towns and tour boats on the Inside Passage are other options.
