Raven Trail

The Raven Trail is a moderate hike through Tongass National Forest that climbs from near sea level to a ridge with panoramic views of the surrounding islands, channels, and mainland peaks. The trail passes through the dense Sitka spruce and western hemlock forest typical of the Inside Passage — mossy, dripping, and alive with birds. Muskeg bogs, small alpine lakes, and occasional bear tracks remind you that the backcountry begins immediately where the road ends.

The trailhead is accessible by bicycle or on foot from town. Allow three to four hours for the full round trip. Wear waterproof footwear regardless of the forecast — the forest floor is permanently wet in Southeast Alaska, and the reward of clear-day views from the ridge makes the effort worthwhile.
