The Museum of the Aleutians is the best first stop in Unalaska. Its collections cover Unangax̂ life, archaeology, Russian-American history, the Second World War, and contemporary local art.
The museum is small, but it gives the islands a human scale before you look at the docks, church, and mountains. Without it, Unalaska can feel like scenery and industry; with it, the place reads as homeland.
