Kayenta sits at the junction of US-160 and US-163 in the northeastern corner of Arizona, deep in the Navajo Nation. A car is not optional — there is no public transport to Kayenta or anywhere nearby.
The nearest commercial airports are in Flagstaff (about 175 miles southwest on US-160) and Page, Arizona (about 75 miles west), though Page has limited service. Most visitors fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor or Albuquerque and drive. The drive from Flagstaff takes around two and a half hours on a straight, well-maintained highway through spectacular mesa country. From Salt Lake City, the approach via US-191 through Monument Valley is equally dramatic.
Fill your petrol tank in Kayenta. Beyond it, stations become scarce, and running dry on a lonely Navajo Nation road is not an experience to seek out.
