A pink-and-turquoise neon diner across the street from the Powerhouse, exactly the kind of place you would draw if asked to sketch a Route 66 roadside cafe. Mr. D'z opened in the 1990s in a converted 1950s service station, kept the period fittings, and now serves burgers, chilli dogs, milkshakes, and its own house-made root beer to a steady stream of road-trippers.
The food is competent rather than great, but the building, the jukebox, and the outdoor neon make it worth the stop. Try the root beer float and grab a seat at the counter for the full effect.
