Diamond Creek Road is the reason Peach Springs matters to many canyon travelers. The rough road leaves town and drops through Hualapai land to the Colorado River, reaching a place where the Grand Canyon feels close, loud, and physical rather than distant from a rim overlook.
Do not improvise this drive. The road is unpaved, flood-prone, and controlled by the Hualapai Tribe, so permits, fees, vehicle rules, and closures matter. When conditions line up, though, the descent is one of the Southwest's most unusual spare-day trips.
