Peach Springs

Hualapai Route 66 town with rare road access down to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.

North America > United States > Arizona > Peach Springs

Peach Springs is a small Hualapai town on the old Route 66 alignment between Seligman and Kingman. At first glance it looks like a quiet desert stop, but its position is extraordinary: Diamond Creek Road runs north from town to the Colorado River, making this one of the very few places where ordinary travelers can reach the bottom of the Grand Canyon by road.

That access gives Peach Springs a stronger travel identity than most Route 66 settlements of its size. Hualapai River Runners leave from here for rafting trips through a remote stretch of the canyon, while the Hualapai Cultural Center gives some context for the people whose land you are crossing. East of town, Grand Canyon Caverns adds a classic roadside cave stop with its own dry, strange geology.

This is not the polished South Rim experience. Distances are long, services are limited, and access to some places depends on Hualapai rules, permits, weather, and road conditions. Come prepared and respectful, and Peach Springs can turn a Route 66 drive into a day with real canyon depth.
