San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area

Protected desert river corridor east of Sierra Vista, prized for birding, walking, and wildlife.

The San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area protects one of the last free-flowing desert rivers in the region. Cottonwoods, grasslands, and wetland patches make it a major migration route for birds, with quiet trails starting east of Sierra Vista.

It is a different experience from the mountain canyons: flatter, wider, and more open to the sky. Bring water, binoculars, and patience.
