The most famous saloon on Allen Street, Big Nose Kate's is named after Mary Katherine Haroney — Doc Holliday's common-law wife, who went by "Big Nose Kate" in Tombstone's saloon culture. The building dates to 1881 and has been a drinking establishment almost continuously ever since. Today it is the largest and most popular bar in town, with live country and western music most evenings, a long wooden bar, and enough period memorabilia on the walls to keep you occupied between rounds.
It is loud and crowded on weekends, which is either its appeal or its problem depending on your tolerance for tourist atmosphere. The staff play up the Wild West theme without apology. Order a whiskey and lean into it — the building itself is the real thing.
