The Arizona Historical Society Museum sits a short walk from the University of Arizona campus and covers the state's history from Spanish frontier days through territorial mining boom and onwards. The standout exhibit is a walk-through copper mine, complete with shaft, head frame, and a replica miners' camp.

The Geronimo room — the Apache wars and their aftermath — is dense and uncompromising. There is a small fee. Worth a couple of hours, particularly before heading out to the desert sites at San Xavier and Tumacácori.
