Robson's Mining World

A sprawling outdoor museum a couple of miles outside town that claims the world's largest collection of antique mining equipment. Open October through May, it's a genuine oddity: acres of steam-powered ore crushers, drilling rigs, ore carts, and heavy machinery, arranged around a recreated Western townscape that includes a general store, assay office, newspaper office, and post office — all staffed and operational during open hours.

It's not a polished experience, which is part of the charm. Allow two to three hours to walk the equipment displays properly. There's a restaurant and ice cream parlor on site.

A story
The founder, Charles Robson, spent decades accumulating antique mining equipment from abandoned operations across the Southwest. The collection grew so large that he needed an entire ghost town to house it — he built replica buildings around the equipment rather than the other way around.
