U.S. Post Office and Courthouse

The 1930s federal building is Texarkana's most photographed structure. State Line Avenue runs straight through it, and the address is split: the Texas side is 500 N. State Line, the Arkansas side is 500 N. State Line, but they fall under different jurisdictions. The exterior is solid limestone in a restrained Classical Revival idiom, with twin entrances mirroring each other across the state line.

Inside, the mail sorting room is bisected by a painted line on the floor. The courthouse upstairs still hears federal cases for both districts. Out front, the photo opportunity at the state line marker is obligatory: one foot in Texas, one in Arkansas, both in a postcard.

A story
The federal building straddling State Line Avenue is the only U.S. post office and courthouse standing in two states at once. Stamps from the Texas side and the Arkansas side are postmarked differently, and the building itself is split between the Eastern District of Texas and the Western District of Arkansas.
