The Harvest Time farm trail is Brentwood's greatest attraction and its truest identity. More than 30 family farms and ranches in the area open their gates to visitors from late spring (cherries start in late April or May) through early fall (corn and late stone fruit). You pick directly from the trees and rows — cherries, apricots, peaches, nectarines, plums, berries, and the famous Brentwood sweet corn.
The experience is resolutely unsophisticated, and all the better for it. Families spread out among the orchards with buckets and bags; serious fruit eaters plan whole weekends around the peak of a particular variety. A map of participating farms is available online and at local shops in town. The best time to visit is June through early August, when the stone fruits are at their peak and the corn is coming in.
Most farms are cash only and have specific hours — check ahead before making the drive.
