Rancho Los Meganos

Before Brentwood was a town or even a name, the land was part of Rancho Los Meganos — one of the large Mexican land grants that carved up California's interior valleys in the 1830s. The rancho covered more than 13,000 acres of Delta-edge terrain, and its agricultural potential was evident from the start. Walking or driving the farm roads north of downtown, you are moving through what was once a single enormous grant. No formal monument exists, but the history gives the modern farm trail an unexpected depth.

A story
The 13,316-acre Rancho Los Meganos was granted in 1835 to José Noriega under Mexican rule. After California's transition to American control, the rancho passed through several hands, and the fertile Delta-edge land that once supported cattle eventually became exactly the farmland that defines Brentwood today — a direct line from Mexican land grant to the Harvest Time farm trail.
