Vandenberg Space Force Base is not a normal visitor attraction, but its launches are one of Lompoc's most memorable experiences. When a rocket goes up, the plume can be visible from town, nearby roads, and coastal viewpoints, especially around dawn, dusk, or night launches.
Launch schedules change often, and access to the base itself is restricted. Treat this as a timing bonus rather than a guaranteed sight: check the official Vandenberg schedule, then ask locally about current viewing spots and road closures.
