Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is a marshy desert oasis just north of Desert Hot Springs, with boardwalks, cottonwoods, mesquite, and excellent birding. It is especially good early in the day, when the heat is down and the preserve's water makes the desert feel briefly generous.
