The Humboldt Bay Harbor Cruise runs narrated 75-minute tours of the bay, covering the wildlife, history, and ecology of one of California's most important coastal wetlands. The boat departs from the foot of F Street near the waterfront and covers the bay from the shipping channel to the bird-rich shallows around Eureka Slough. Harbour seals, brown pelicans, cormorants, and numerous shorebirds are reliably visible, and the guide explains the bay's working history — the oyster beds, the timber shipping, and the fishing industry that shaped Eureka.
The cruise is one of the best ways to understand why Humboldt Bay matters ecologically. The surrounding wetlands and salt marshes are nationally significant, and the bay supports one of the largest concentrations of shorebirds on the Pacific Coast during migration. Trips run in season (roughly May through September); call 707-445-1910 for current schedules and bookings.
