Carson Hill

Gold Rush mining settlement area near Angels Camp with layered boomtown history

Carson Hill is a Gold Rush-era mining area near Angels Camp, tied to some of the richest early hard-rock finds in the Mother Lode. Today it is more landscape and memory than preserved townscape, but that suits the place: hills, diggings, roads, and scattered remains hint at how quickly mining camps rose and faded.

It is most worthwhile for travellers already following Calaveras County's mining history. Combine it with Angels Camp Museum and nearby natural-cave stops rather than expecting a polished historic village.
