The June Lake Loop is a 16-mile scenic drive north of Mammoth Lakes along June Lake Road, threading through a glacially carved valley that contains four alpine lakes — Grant Lake, Silver Lake, Gull Lake, and June Lake itself. The drive is one of the most scenic short excursions from Mammoth, with the rugged Ritter Range rising to the west and the High Sierra backdrop making every viewpoint photogenic.
Each lake has its character: Grant Lake is the largest and most open, good for windsurfing; Silver Lake has a resort and good trout fishing; June Lake is the most developed, with a small village, restaurants, and boat rentals. A ski area at June Mountain operates in winter as a smaller, quieter alternative to Mammoth Mountain. The loop is best in autumn when aspens turn gold, or in early summer when snowmelt fills the streams. From Mammoth, it is a 20-minute drive to the junction.
