Officially Marina Beach, but universally called Mother's Beach, this small crescent of sand sits inside the harbour rather than on the open ocean, so the water is flat and waveless — which is exactly the point. Families with small children, kayakers, and stand-up paddleboard beginners all favour it for the calm, protected conditions, and there are picnic areas and a playground behind the sand.
It is not a place for surf or sweeping coastline — for that, Venice and Santa Monica are a short ride north. But as a sheltered spot to swim, paddle, or let children loose near the water, it is the most useful beach in Marina del Rey.
