The Clarke Historical Museum at 240 E Street holds the premier collection of North Coast Native American basketry and regalia in the region, along with exhibits on the Victorian-era logging and fishing industries that built the city. The Native American collection is especially strong: hundreds of baskets, ceremonial objects, and regalia from the Wiyot, Yurok, Karok, and Hupa peoples who inhabited this coast long before the lumber industry arrived.
The building itself is a 1912 neoclassical bank — the ornate pressed-metal ceilings and marble counters survive intact, making the space feel like a museum of the building as much as its contents. Free admission; closed Mondays. Phone: 707/443-1947.
