Woodley Island Marina

Marina and monument to Humboldt Bay's fishing heritage

Woodley Island is a small island in Humboldt Bay connected to the mainland by a causeway on the north side of downtown. The marina here is home to Eureka's commercial fishing fleet — dungeness crab boats, trawlers, and salmon boats — and walking the docks gives a more honest picture of the working waterfront than the tourist-facing Old Town strip.

The island also has a bronze monument called "The Fisherman," a life-size sculpture of a commercial fisherman that serves as a memorial to those lost at sea from Humboldt Bay. The lookout point near the marina offers good views back across the bay toward the city and south toward Humboldt Bay's wildlife refuges. Free to visit; the marina restaurant is a reasonable place for a lunch of local Dungeness crab.
