North Coast Brewing Company is one of the most respected craft breweries in California, established in Fort Bragg in 1988. It operates a taproom and restaurant in a converted 1912 Presbyterian church on North Harold Street — a handsome building for a handsome brewery. The flagship beers are excellent: Red Seal Ale is the everyday choice, while Rasputin Imperial Stout and Brother Thelonious Belgian-style Abbey Ale have earned the brewery national recognition.
The restaurant serves solid pub food with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. The bar is lively in the evenings and makes a good post-hike destination after a day on the Mendocino coast. Tours of the brewing operation are available; call ahead to check the schedule. It is one of the few places in town where the evening extends past nine o'clock.
