Petaluma Farmers Market

Petaluma's Saturday farmers market, held downtown from spring through autumn, is one of the better ones in the North Bay — not huge, but with a genuine mix of local farms and food producers rather than just resellers. The market reflects the character of the surrounding land: dairy farmers, egg producers, vegetable growers, and fruit orchardists all appear here, along with bread bakers, jam makers, and prepared-food stalls.

The market takes place in a downtown parking lot on D Street near Petaluma Boulevard, which keeps it compact and easy to navigate. Arrive around opening time to get first pick of the best seasonal produce; local chefs are often there early for the same reason. There is a smaller weekday market at the same location, but the Saturday version draws the most vendors and the most interesting produce.
