Shollenberger Park

Shollenberger Park is a 165-acre wetland park at the edge of the Petaluma River, where the tidal slough opens out into the marshes of San Pablo Bay. A paved walking and cycling loop circles the main wetland area, with benches and viewing platforms overlooking the reed beds and open water. It is one of the better bird-watching spots in Sonoma County, with great blue herons, egrets, ducks, and shorebirds present year-round, and migrating species passing through in spring and autumn.

The park connects to the Petaluma River trail and the Rainier Avenue Park, making it possible to walk a considerable distance along the water. Dog-walkers, cyclists, and birders use it throughout the day. The flat, easy terrain makes it accessible for all ages. Early mornings and evenings tend to have the best bird activity and the most pleasant light over the water.
