Anaheim Packing House

The Anaheim Packing House is the city's best reason to venture away from the resort area. Built in 1919 as a citrus-packing facility during Anaheim's fruit-growing era — before the orange groves gave way to Disneyland's parking lots — it was converted in 2014 into one of Southern California's more successful food halls.

The two-storey building preserves its industrial bones: exposed timber trusses, concrete floors, and the original freight elevator. Around 30 food vendors occupy stalls on both levels, ranging from tacos and Vietnamese food to craft beer and artisan ice cream. The quality is consistently higher than the tourist-strip alternatives near the parks. It anchors the revived Downtown Anaheim district on Center Street Promenade, which has a handful of independent shops and bars worth exploring. About two miles from Disneyland, it is best reached by car or rideshare.
