North Park is the inner-city neighbourhood that has become the creative and culinary heart of San Diego over the past two decades. The intersection of 30th Street and University Avenue is surrounded by craft breweries, independent restaurants, coffee shops, record stores, and music venues in densely packed walkable blocks — rare for San Diego.
The craft beer scene here is particularly strong. Stone Brewing, Modern Times, and a dozen smaller breweries have tasting rooms within walking distance. The Sunday Farmers' Market on 30th Street is one of the best in the county. The Ray Street Arts District holds monthly walkabouts. North Park is where the city's young professional class has settled; it is livelier than the downtown tourist corridor and more interesting than most of the beach communities.
