The local ski hill, about a fifteen-minute drive from McCloud on Highway 89, is a small, friendly operation with three chairlifts and around thirty runs spread across 425 skiable acres. It runs from late November to early April depending on snow, with a top elevation of 6,890 feet and a vertical drop of just under 1,400 feet. Lift tickets are cheap by California standards and the lines are nothing like Tahoe.
In summer the park flips into mountain-bike-and-zipline mode, with chair-assisted downhill trails on the same slopes. The base lodge is unfussy and the views back across to Mount Shasta itself are part of the appeal. A good option for families and intermediate skiers who don't need the glitz of a destination resort.
