The State Theatre opened in 1908 as a vaudeville house and movie theatre and remains essentially intact a century later — the second-balcony horseshoe, the gilded plasterwork, and the painted curtain are all original. After a long period of decline, the building was rescued by a community trust in the 2010s and is once again used for film screenings, concerts, and local productions.
Check the program if you are in town; the interior is worth the price of admission to whatever happens to be on.
