Trinity

Far northern California backcountry region centred on Trinity Lake and the granite peaks of the Trinity Alps

Trinity County is deep backcountry in far northern California, centred on the Trinity Alps Wilderness and the reservoir of Trinity Lake. This is where Californians come to escape — houseboat on the lake, fish for bass and trout, hike into the alpine wilderness, or simply camp under pines with nobody around.

The Trinity Alps Wilderness Area offers some of the best backcountry hiking in the state, with granite peaks, glacial lakes, and far fewer people than the Sierra Nevada. Trinity Center, a tiny settlement on the north shore of the lake, is home to the Scott Museum and its curious collection of barbed wire.
