Boreas Pass

A high mountain road with mining relics, railway history, and superb autumn color.

Boreas Pass gives Breckenridge some of its range beyond the usual resort-town formula. It is close enough to town to fit into a short visit, but it rewards a little patience, especially when weather, altitude, or ski-season crowds slow things down.

Go prepared for mountain conditions. Sun, wind, snow, and afternoon storms can all show up quickly here, and the elevation makes ordinary walks feel more strenuous. In the busy months, start early and leave room in the day for Main Street, where Breckenridge is at its most relaxed.
