Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill rises east of downtown — the city's densest historic neighborhood, a tight grid of Victorian rowhouses and 1920s brick apartment buildings, anchored by the State Capitol on its western edge. It's where late-19th-century Denver money built its mansions; many survive, and a few (Molly Brown's most famously) are open as museums.

Today it's the most walkable and most diverse part of the city: queer bars on Colfax, dim sum on Federal, used record stores on East 13th, and a thriving low-key restaurant scene. The 16th Street terminus of Civic Center marks its western edge; Cheesman Park its eastern.
