The Museum of Friends is Walsenburg's oddest cultural stop, a contemporary-art collection built from works donated by artists connected to founders Brendt and Maria Cocchiarelli Berger. It sits downtown, where its galleries feel deliberately out of scale with the small-town street outside.
The collection is strongest if you enjoy the personal networks behind art as much as the objects themselves. It is not a reason to cross Colorado alone, but paired with Lathrop State Park and the mining museum it gives Walsenburg a second register beyond geology and coal.
