Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in this modest Victorian cottage from 1873 until her death in 1896, next door to her friend and neighbor Mark Twain. She had written Uncle Tom's Cabin twenty years earlier, but Hartford was where she spent her later life. The house is restored to its 1890s appearance and contains original furnishings and personal belongings. Guided tours cover both her literary legacy and the domestic arrangements of a Victorian household of her era.
